Clif Bar Shot Roks Peanut Butter & Chocolate Review

Submitted by on March 3, 2010 – 10:09 amNo Comment

I’ve been getting sick of protein bars lately so I ended up picking up these. They have 20 grams of protein and are about twice the size of a Whopper candy. The question you’re probably asking is, “do they taste as good as a Whopper?”.

I went ahead and tried the Peanut Butter flavor first. The first thing you realize is that they are very chewy. It’s a similar style to the Whopper but with a different consistency. The Peanut Butter flavor was pretty good. I didn’t get sick of them by the end of the package and felt that there were enough “bites” in there to give me a nice little snack.

I next tried the Chocolate flavor. At first I didn’t really like the flavoring of them. After I ate a few of the bites I started to enjoy them more. I definitely liked the Peanut Butter flavor more though. I did not think the Chocolate flavor was that great.

As far as the nutrition goes (both Chocolate and PB are pretty similar):

INGREDIENTS: Clif Protein Blend TM (Whey Protein Concentrate, Milk Protein Isolate, Whey Protein Isolate), Organic Evaporated Cane Juice Crystals, Organic Evaporated Cane Juice Syrup, Glycerine, Inulin Syrup (Chicory Root Extract), Organic Peanut Butter, Oat Flour, Natural Flavors, Organic Tapioca Maltodextrin, Salt, Organic Corn Starch, Confectioners Glaze, Soy Lecithin, Colored with Caramel Color and Beta Carotene, Carnauba Wax.

They are “good”. If you’re sick of Protein bars/Shakes and want to try something different then I would suggest these as a snack alternative. I would like to see a drop in Sugar – and if the drop in Sugar can’t happen then I would at least like them to taste like they have 27 grams of Sugar in them.

The one thing Clif Bar does a great job at though is the ingredient list. It is probably one of the best out there on every product they have.

Overall:

  • Taste: 6.5/10 (not the best but not bad either)
  • Cost: 6/10 ($2.00+ which is a bit costly for what you get IMO)
  • Healthiness: 8/10 (good)
