Promax Black Forest Cake Protein Bar Review

I was at the store the other day and this bar happen to catch my eye. I don’t usually find myself looking forward to eating a protein bar as most of them don’t even come close to the “flavor” they say they taste like. But this for some reason made me want to try it. The nutrition on it is “pretty” good. It happens to be high in sugar, which is probably why it tastes so good. The macros on it aren’t too bad. With 280 calories, 6 grams of fat, 38 grams of carbs (27g of that is from sugar), and 20 grams of protein…I wasn’t complaining too much.

The bar is pretty big (about the size of a king size snickers). As for the taste of it…lets just say its probably better than any candy bar I have ever ate and walks all over every other protein bar I’ve ever had.

I will say this – for an everyday bar I would not eat this. It is far too high in sugar alcohol and could use a drop in fat as well as a drop in the ingredient list although nothing stands out too much. For something to eat “every now and then” to crave having an actual candy bar or just to keep you sane…this is what I would eat. If they could drop the sugar content and fat a bit, this would be a lot better than it already is (if the taste wasn’t compromised too much).

Overall:

  • Taste: 10/10 (by far the best tasting protein bar I’ve ever had)
  • Cost: 9/10 ($1.39 one of the cheaper protein bars)
  • Healthiness: 6.5/10 (needs a drop in sugar and a slight drop in fat)
