Back to Basics Egg & Muffin Toaster Review

Submitted by on October 13, 2009 – 8:30 pmNo Comment

So I’m walking through the store looking for random stuff to buy in Target, I do this every so often. I then see that they have back in stock the Egg & Muffin Toaster from Back to Basics, I figure “why not?” and buy it. Then I hopped over to get some eggs, bacon, and whole wheat english muffins. When I got home I was actually pretty excited to try this thing…maybe it’s because I’ve been on a strict diet lately and have been looking for something new to eat or maybe I’m just weird? Anyways, here’s some pictures and a review for your enjoyment:

Here is a layout of what was used:

It says to only use one egg, but since I was in a creative mode I decided to use two (reallll creative, right?)

emt3

The pan is really small, about as big as your palm….almost an inch deep I’d say. It says to break the yolk with a fork (which I did below but I really don’t think it would matter if you did or not).

Here’s a picture of the toaster. The stainless steel pan in the front is where you add water. For one egg you add 3 TBSP of water. Since I did two eggs, I added a little more than 6 TBSP of water.

emt5

After the water is added, cut your english muffin and/or toast then put your egg on top of the water.

emt6

Now you are ready to go…simply press the Egg/Toast button and push down the lever.

Almost done…

Once it’s done, remove the pan from the toaster and take the steam lid off. This is what you see:

Now the pic doesn’t do this justice. It came out perfect, an I rarely use that word.

Throw the bacon (turkey bacon for a healthy alternative) in the microwave for 30 seconds and you now have a two egg sandwich.

And the finale…

Overall this is the best $30 I’ve ever spent. I would pay upwards to $75 for this thing. It takes less than 5 minutes with clean up to make a two egg sandwich. This is just a simple sandwich too. In the manual it gives you many recipes for other types you can make. Did I mention this thing also STEAMS HAM while it cooks the egg? No, I didn’t. I’m going to try that later this week.

I almost forgot to comment on the taste. We all know what a McDonald’s Egg McMuffin tastes like…this thing trumps it. It honestly tastes better than ANY breakfast sandwich I’ve ever had. There is no comparison. I can’t explain how good this thing works.

Oh and one more thing, it HARD BOILS 4 EGGS in ~7 minutes. You literally wash the egg, poke it with the egg poker it comes with and throw it in. Takes ~1 minute to set up. Not only that but they are the BEST hard boiled eggs I’ve ever had also. You can also adjust how hard/soft you want them with the amount of water you add. This thing is great. Take a plane to the nearest target if you have to and pick one up.

  • Cost: 10/10
  • Clean Up Time: 10/10
  • Ease Of Use: 10/10
  • Taste: 10/10
  • Overall: 10+/10
